June 17, 2026

Dear Parent/Supporter,

We're looking forward to welcoming you and your family to our Gala! Our Gala is all about giving children a fun, inclusive and memorable football experience. We hope you enjoy everything the weekend has to offer.

Before You Arrive

Get the Brochure and the App
Our event brochure contains all the detail you need - get it here.

Tournify will provide live fixtures, results, pitch locations and tournament updates throughout the day. We recommend downloading it before you arrive. Get the app from your app store (Apple / Android) and search for "Wetherby Athletic Gala 2026".

Plan your journey

The event takes place on the Ings on the South bank of the River Wharfe in Wetherby. Use LS22 5FN in your satnav, or this link. Do not park on the approach road or in Wetherby Leisure Centre; parking is not permitted there, and traffic wardens will be in attendance across the weekend.

Facilities

We take card or cash across the event.

Parking is £4 per vehicle. All parking income goes directly towards supporting Wetherby Athletic JFC.

Food vendors, sweet stalls and ice creams will be available throughout the event. The WSA Clubhouse will also be open for refreshments and shelter if needed.

Photography

Photographs will be taken throughout the tournament. If you do not wish for your child or team to be included, please inform your coach, who can notify the organisers at the Admin Tent.

Be Weather-ready

The Ings is an open site, so please come prepared for all conditions.

  • Sunny: hats, sun cream and water bottles
  • Rainy: waterproofs and warm layers

Yorkshire weather can change quickly!

First Aid

Team coaches should deal with minor injuries in the first instance.

Respect & Conduct

Please remember that our referees, volunteers and organisers are giving their time to provide a fantastic experience for the children.

We ask all players, coaches and spectators to show respect to opponents, match officials and volunteers throughout the event.

Any unacceptable behaviour towards referees, players, coaches, volunteers or spectators will be treated seriously and may be referred to your club Welfare Officer and Chairperson.

-----

Most importantly, enjoy the football, support positively and help us create a brilliant atmosphere for all the children taking part.

We look forward to welcoming you to Wetherby.

MIKE SHEERIN – A LEGEND OF OUR CLUB If you have been following the fortunes of our football club for the last 18 years, there has been one person who has been instrumental in nurturing and growing the younger boys age groups, as well as being a leader in developing the club and being the driving force in our hugely successful galas. That person is Mike Sheerin. Starting in the 2003/4 season as the assistant to Geoff Cheetham’s U8 boys team, Mike then took on the role of coaching the U8 and U7 boys from 2006/7 and stayed with the younger age groups all the way until Sunday 27th June 2021. Mike’s impact on the club is impossible to pay credit to in a couple of paragraphs. He has been selfless in his service, giving up a huge amount of time to coach, attend club & league meetings, make pitch improvements and provide endless amounts of advice to aspiring and experienced coaches. Simply put, we wouldn’t be the club we are without him. We must also remember that the hours he has given to Wetherby Athletic require the support and encouragement of Mike’s wife, Nicola. We extend a special thanks to her for allowing Mike to spend his weekends out of the house for the last 18 years and hope that you both enjoy Mike’s newfound free time. Mike, a big THANK YOU for everything that you have done; you are a Legend.
