A Note from WAJFC Management Committee

Dear All

We hope everyone is well and enjoying football so far this season.

 It is very pleasing to say that the club goes from strength to strength. Despite some teams naturally reaching the end of the junior football careers last year at under 18 level we still have in excess of 330 registered players in 16 different teams this year. In some age groups we have waiting lists and others are nearing capacity. It is great to be part of such a strong and growing club.
We’d like to thank all parents for getting annual subs in on time. This is a great help especially at the start of the season as we need to pay fees for leagues, pitch hire, training venues, coaches and buying equipment for the players to use week in week out. Despite rising costs on virtually all fronts we did our best to keep subs levels down as far as possible with only a modest increase this year and we hope you agree they represent good value for money. The fees we pay to Wetherby Sports Association each year also means we have access to the pitches on The Ings and a great club house with all its facilities. Please make sure you use the club house facilities like the bar and snack bar as much as possible to help keep it going. Remember it is also available to hire at reduced rates for parties and events.
In previous years we have hosted a number of league events at Wetherby to help generate extra income.  We won’t be doing as much in this front this year partly due to a shortage of volunteers to run the events which means our income levels will be reduced. We will be running what is widely regarded as the best gala in the region as normal and this helps generate income for us as well as other social events during the year. Please help support the fundraising events so that we can continue to keep subs levels as low as possible.

Whilst financial support for events is crucial, we also need your support as volunteers to help with all aspects of running the club which is now a registered charity.

We always need help with the footballing side of the club as volunteer coaches and helpers.  In particular we will need new committee members and charity trustees as our current Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and some of our Trustees will reach the end of their terms this year. These roles are crucial non footballing roles without which the club couldn’t continue. So we would like to put out a particular plea for help to fill these roles please.

The job descriptions can be found in the downloads session of this website - would you or anyone in your family like to help? This could be mums, dads, brothers, sisters, grandparents. Surely we must have some friends and families with skills who could offer to help. The Treasurer role for example could suit someone who works in a financial type role and has some time to spare or maybe a recently retired grandparent who would like to keep their hand in and help their family as well. The Secretary role would suit someone with strong organisational skills and who is a good people person. The chair role might suit someone who can bring things and people together and manage agendas. We really do need your help over the next few months to fill these roles without which, quite frankly, the club will fold.
