West Riding County FA Charter Standard Community Club of the Year - 2015 

Wetherby Athletic JFC boasts teams for girls and boys of all abilities from ages 5 to 18. The club encourages all members of the local community to get involved whether playing, coaching, administrating or simply supporting. We are very proud of our "FA Community Club Award.

  

Wetherby Athletic JFC strive to be an outstanding organisation. The club ethos is to provide opportunities for all ages and abilities to play football in a safe and friendly environment, in which all its members feel valued and supported.

We have a philosophy which describes the attitude of our coaches and acts as the guiding principles for the training and development of all our players. Our philosophy is… 

  • To provide age appropriate coaching enabling players to develop technically, physically, psychologically  and socially as described in the FA’s four corners model.
  • To create a fun and friendly atmosphere in which players grow a love for the game.
  • To provide opportunities for players to experience competitive play in a safe and supportive environment.
  • To promote fair play and team work.
  • To give extensive positive reinforcement and constructive feedback.
  • To encourages players to try new skills and demonstrate that making mistakes is not to be feared but an opportunity to learn. 
  • To build confidence and self-esteem by rewarding effort and ability.
  • To be a model of appropriate behaviour.

All coaches at our club will undergo the following minimum training courses;

  • The FA Level 1 Award in Coaching Football 
  • FA Emergency Aid 
  • FA Safeguarding Children Award

All our coaches have Enhanced FA CRC checks. 

Behind the scenes we have a superb voluntary team doing all those important jobs to help make this club as successful as possible. Coaches, assistances and helpers bring many skills which are needed to create a supportive, exciting, dynamic and forward thinking approach. We strive to provide a safe supportive family atmosphere in which children can develop to their full potential.

Girls League Semi Finals - A HUGE SUCCESS

This weekend GIRLS FOOTBALL takes over The Ings as Wetherby Sports Association plays host to the West Riding Girls Football League Cup & Shield Semi Finals. We hosted the Cup last season, but with the Shield games this year, The Ings will see 32 games across the weekend.

It's Saturday & Sunday with the first games kicking off at 10am & the final games finishing around 4pm on both days.

With U9s through to U16s, it's guaranteed to be a fantastic showpiece for girls football ...so please come down and watch future England Lionesses.

Sunshine Gala a Real Success

A big thanks to everyone that helped and supported us on Sunday as the club hosted the West Riding CFA Gala for U7/8 girls in both the Harrogate & West Riding Leagues. The sun shone throughout and football on display matched it.

Number 1 for Girls and Womens Football

What makes Wetherby Athletic Number 1 for girls and women's football?
Wetherby Athletic has invested significantly in girls and women's football over the last two years. Our growth has matched the increasing popularity of the girls’ and women's game nationally and we are rightly proud of our set-up which now has over a hundred players. We welcome players of all abilities and at all age groups whether experienced players looking for the best club in the region or new players taking their first steps on the footballing ladder. The club were awarded the West Riding FA “Community Club of the Year in 2015”.
Wherever you start your footballing journey we have a team to welcome you. We start at age 5 and have teams at all age groups through to our women’s senior teams. Many of our players progress all the way through the age groups developing their skills and abilities as they go.

World Cup Stars Meet Wetherby Girls

 
 
World Cup Stars Inspire Wetherby Girls.
It's not everyday that you meet 5 international football stars, but that's what happened to three Wetherby Girls u16 footballers when they were guests of Doncaster Rovers Belles this week. The  Belles took on Manchester City Women in the Continental Cup cheered on by the Wetherby girls. Manchester City boasted 5 international players including England Captain Steph Houghton, goalkeeper Karen Bardsley and World Cup super goal hero Lucy Bronze.
"We enjoyed the game, but it was also great to meet the England stars and players from both teams after the match. Such a friendly atmosphere " said super striker Lisa Clarke. 
Wetherby defender Charlotte Hawksworth was very pleased " We were really happy that the players,including some of the World Cup stars, took so much time to talk to us, sign autographs and take pictures".
"Steph, Lucy and team mates are certainly doing their best to inspire the next generation of women footballers and build on the World Cup success. We were so impressed by them" said midfield dynamo Jess Walker. 
" We were delighted to welcome the Wetherby U16 girls to the Keepmoat" said Mark Donnelly of Doncaster Rovers Belles " we are so pleased they enjoyed the match and meeting the players after the game. We are always keen to welcome local teams to watch the Belles in action".

If you're not sure who to speak to or about which age group is appropriate just ring any one of us and we'll make sure we connect you to the right squad

Under 16s - (From September 2015) - New Players welcome

We are a very friendly squad who are keen to welcome new players year 10 and 9 ( year 11 and 10 from September). We train on Mondays and we are supported by Leeds United Foundation professional UEFA B qualified coach.
